Don Sullens
-
Life Member CCTTA
Don
started playing with the Central Coast Table Tennis Club at its inception in
1954 and maintained an active association with the club until the mid 1980’s,
during which time he was a leading force in teams entered by the Gosford Packing
House and later by the Gosford RSL Club.
His playing career culminated in playing a couple of competitions with long term
Club President and fellow life member Ken Lamb who had for years had been an
ally at a club administration level yet fierce competitor at the other end of
the table.
As a player Don was always very competitive with newspaper reports during his
playing career describing him as “flying the banner for the team”, “leading the
team to another victory”, “playing a particularly good match to watch”, “winning
all three singles” comments all indicative of his approach to the game.
It was his business skills that made Don a champion at the Central Coast Table
Tennis Association. He is the club’s longest serving executive member being
Treasurer from 1958 – 1978, a period when the club consolidated its revenue and
established a base for future progress.
