Elaine Edwards - Life Member CCTTA

Picture
A single mother of eight children Elaine started playing table tennis on the Central Coast in 1972 on a Thursday night “to have one night away from the kids and to keep in touch with the outside world.” As her children grew up Elaine became more involved with association and held the position of President in 1987 and 1988. Elaine also played in the Wyong Table Tennis club. When that organisation folded in 1997 she organised a Monday night hit-up at Soldiers Beach and was recently involved in the move to the Catholic Church hall in Toukley in 2007. The continuation of this hit-up has provided access to table tennis in the northern part of the coast and continues to supply new players to the CCTTA competition.

On the tables Elaine has held the association’s Ladies Singles Champion from 1974 missing one year due to illness. Winning the 2007 final makes it 32 years and still going strong. Elaine was selected in the NSW Veterans team in 1984 playing in Tasmania and has continues to represent her state up until the present time. In this time Elaine has won 4 Gold , 14 Silver and 24 Bronze at the Australian Championships. In addition there are numerous State Aged and Open Championships achievements.

In 2006 Elaine was ranked number 1 in NSW Female player over 70 and in 2005 Elaine was ranked 4th in Australia.
